Glokala And Al-Studio ... TBC 2025

When The Bus Broke Through The Wall: Art and Travel Between Malmö and Ramallah.

In September 2024, an artistic initiative was launched between Al-Studio…TBC and Glokala Folkhögskolan, transcending the boundaries of digital space to establish an artistic and humanitarian dialogue. For weeks, students from Ramallah and Malmö met in an open digital space, exchanging stories, drawings, and reflections, until they formed their own artistic language, pulsating with the personal and the public, the visible and the invisible.

This collaboration culminated in a busy week in Malmö, where the city welcomed a group of students and artists from Palestine. The week included a number of workshops, activities and visits that deepened the relationship between both schools, most notably the “Bypass” workshop, which opened a space for personal, collective and human artistic experimentation and contributed to deepening the discussion on identity and belonging.

A mural on the theme of travelling and borders was also carried out, through which the participants represented a bus crossing the wall, in a visual expression of crossing and defiance. In a symbolic gesture, the names of four students from Al-Studio…TBC who were not granted visas to travel were written on the mural, symbolising their presence despite the imposed absence.

The week concluded with an extended meeting between Al-Studio…TBC and Glokala Folkhögskolan with a number of local organisations and cultural actors in Malmö, during which ideas about ways to develop and sustain the project were put forward, in a scene that emphasised that art is not only a means of expression, but also a tool for human communication.
